about

Like most Lithuanian folk songs, this one has many different subjects--
A mother wonders where her son was the previous night, she asks whether it was on horseback, or over the far away black sea (from the time when Lithuania was a 'Grand Duchy' stretching all the way from the Baltic to the Black Sea in Ukraine)
The singer then transforms into a girl, asking the dawn not to come, asking the cuckoo not to sing yet, so that the night can stay young (and she can either prolong her romance or stall her impending arranged marriage)
the song ends, with the singer advising the girl not to 'cry away her youth'
